According to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, nearly one million individuals are living with MS in the United States. MS is a disease of the central nervous system (CNS) which consists of the brain, optic nerves and spinal cord. With MS, areas of the CNS become inflamed, damaging the protective covering (known as “myelin”) that surrounds and insulates the nerves (known as “axons”) causing a variety of symptoms including numbness, weakness, pain, mobility/walking issues, and more.
