Dr. Schim grew up in Miami, Florida, and attended the University of Miami, with majors in psychology and philosophy. He then earned a MFA in Ceramics and Photography. He earned his medical degree from University of California San Diego (UCSD) Medical School. He served as a medical intern at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, and completed his neurology residency at UCSD. Dr. Schim has been Medical Director of the Stroke Program at Tri-City Medical Center. He is Board Member and past President of the Headache Consortium of the Pacific, Board Member and past President, American Heart Association San Diego, a Past President of the California Neurologic Society, and an active member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Stroke Association, and American Headache Society.

Dr. Schim is Board certified in Neurology, is a fellow of the American Headache Society, and of the American Academy of Neurology, and is certified in Headache Medicine by the United Council of Neurologic Subspecialties. He has published articles in Experimental Neurology, Current Medical Research and Opinion, Pain Practice, Headache, and Neurology.

He has been using Botox therapeutically since 1989 for numerous therapeutic purposes including migraine, movement disorders, spasticity, hyperhidrosis, and numerous pain conditions, and has been clinically active in headache care since 1992. He has been a clinical investigator in multiple clinical trials including pain, movement disorders, chronic headache, stroke and spasticity, amongst others. He has been a speaker and consultant for Allergan, Alder, Amgen, Avanir, Boehringer- Ingelheim, Colucid, Depo-Med, Electrocore, Eli-Lilly, GSK, Johnson & Johnson, Lilly, Lundbeck, Merck, Pfizer, Supernus, Pernix. Upshire-Smith and Zogenix amongst others.

He is Senior Partner in The Neurology Center, in Carlsbad California, and is co-director of the Headache Center of California. He is a Voluntary Assistant Clinical Professor in the Neuroscience Department at University of California San Diego. He enjoys travel, and is an avid photographer and surfer.
