Dr. Nielsen is a board-certified member of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Prior to practicing in San Diego, Dr. Nielsen completed her medical internship and residency training in neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. She continued at the Mayo Clinic with a fellowship in neurophysiology.

Dr. Nielsen received her medical degree from Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she graduated with honors in the top 5 percent of her class. She also graduated with high honors from UC Santa Barbara while earning her bachelor of arts in physiology.

As a general neurologist, Dr. Nielsen treats a variety of neurological conditions, including epilepsy, dementia, multiple sclerosis, and nerve and spinal cord issues. She has a special interest in helping patients with migraines and stroke. As a board-certified neurophysiologist, she performs nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG) testing to help diagnose disorders of muscles and peripheral nerves.

Dr. Nielsen believes that every patient relationship is a partnership developed by trust and communication. By encouraging her patients to play an active role in their health, she helps ensure each patient is involved in the decision-making process.

A native of southern California, Dr. Nielsen enjoys hiking, snowboarding and spending time with her husband and two kids.
